Aesthetic Supplies Glossary

Definitions of the injectable, thread, needle and cannula terminology used across the Derma Fill Supply catalogue. Terms are listed alphabetically. These are descriptive definitions of terminology, not treatment guidance.

Bio-revitalisation

A treatment approach that uses injectable hydrating or nutrient solutions to improve overall skin quality rather than to add volume or reshape contours.

Blunt-tip cannula

A flexible injection instrument with a rounded, non-cutting tip and a side port, used as an alternative to a sharp needle for placing filler through a single entry point.

Bolus

A single deposit of filler placed at one point, as opposed to material spread along a line or across a fan of passes.

CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite)

A mineral-based filler material supplied as microspheres suspended in a carrier gel.

Cannula gauge

The bore size of a cannula, written as a G number. A higher G number means a thinner instrument; cannulas in this catalogue run from about 30G to 16G.

Cog thread

A suspension thread with barbs or cogs along its length, designed to grip tissue rather than pass through it freely.

Cohesivity

How strongly a gel holds together as a single mass. Manufacturers use it, alongside elasticity, to position products within a range.

Cold chain

A temperature-controlled handling and transport process used for products whose stability depends on staying within a stated temperature range.

Cross-linking

The chemical bonding of hyaluronic acid chains to one another. More cross-linking generally produces a firmer, longer-lasting gel.

Dermal filler

An injectable gel or suspension placed into or under the skin to restore or add volume, smooth lines or reshape a contour.

Elasticity (G prime)

A rheological measure of a gel's resistance to deformation. Higher-G-prime gels are typically positioned for deeper, structural placement.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

A naturally occurring polysaccharide used as the base material for the majority of modern dermal fillers.

Hyaluronidase

An enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, used to reverse or reduce a hyaluronic acid filler result.

Lidocaine

A local anaesthetic included in some filler references to reduce discomfort during injection. It does not change the base gel's placement indication.

Lot / batch number

The manufacturer's production identifier printed on the packaging, used for traceability and recall management.

Mesotherapy

A technique in which small quantities of a solution are injected into the superficial layers of the skin or scalp across many points.

Mesotherapy gun

A handheld injector that delivers repeated, metered micro-injections at a set depth. The U225 is an example of this device class.

Mono thread

A smooth suspension thread without barbs, used for treatments that rely on placement density rather than mechanical grip.

Needle gauge

The bore size of a needle, written as a G number, with higher numbers indicating a thinner needle. Mesotherapy needles in this catalogue run to 34G.

NCTF

New Cellular Treatment Factor, the designation Fillmed uses for its polyrevitalising injectable solutions.

PCL (polycaprolactone)

A resorbable polymer used as the active component of some biostimulatory fillers.

PDO (polydioxanone)

A resorbable surgical polymer used to manufacture absorbable suspension threads.

PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid)

A resorbable polymer used in biostimulatory injectables that are administered over a course of sessions.

Polyrevitalisation

The use of a multi-ingredient injectable solution, typically combining hyaluronic acid with vitamins, amino acids and other components, to address skin quality.

PRX-T33

A biorevitalising topical treatment applied to the skin surface rather than injected.

Screw thread

A suspension thread wound around its insertion needle in a spiral, giving greater material density per insertion than a mono thread.

Skin booster

An injectable hydrating product intended to improve skin hydration and quality rather than to add contour volume.

Suspension thread

A resorbable thread inserted subcutaneously to reposition or support soft tissue. Also called a lifting thread or PDO thread.

Ultra-thin wall (ETW) needle

A needle whose wall is thinner than standard for its gauge, giving a larger internal bore at the same external diameter.

Viscosupplement

An injectable preparation, usually hyaluronic-acid-based, administered into a joint. These are listed under the orthopaedic category.
